Do I need to add something extra to preserve homemade body scrub?

posted on January 24, 2011 in homemade scrub

I make a body scrub using Epsom salt, honey, and coconut oil. I’ve only made small batches for myself and use it when I make it so I’ve never added anything extra to preserve it. I want to make some for gifts though and was wondering if something like vitamin E would be necessary to preserve it.

Thanks

No, the coconut oil will keep it preserved pretty well. If you are giving it as a gift though, you may want to add some vanilla extract or peppermint cloves for a pleasant smell.

how to make a shampoo perfume?

posted on in how to make shampoo

what are the procedure by making shampoo perfume.

Shampoo fragrances are complex mixtures of many different organic chemicals. You would not likely be able to obtain all the chemicals needed to make a fragrance.

There are other things you can do. Buy some extracts in the store, such as vanilla extract, lemon extract, etc. Leave them open to evaporate any alcohol that might be present. Then try to combine them dropwise into a test tube and see what combination you like. It’s a trial and error method. Then you can add that to an unscented shampoo base, which is really just a liquid detergent.

I use Basic H from Shackley. It is a wetting agent. It is very mild but does a great job of getting pups clean, and never hurts their skin or eyes. It is also very economical. Or you can use no tears baby shampoo.
