Home-made shampoo recipe?

posted on June 27, 2010 in shampoo recipe

Does anyone have a recipe for home-made natural shampoo/conditioner, I’m worried about damaging my hair with the detergents in shop-bought shampoos and conditioners.

if you think those store bought ones are hard on your hair, just wait.

The recipes still use soaps, oils, herbs which have no scientific baises for claims and other just dangerous stuff, like eggs which can rot and make salmonella..

Use baby shampoo, it cheaper, cleaner, and better for you.

What is a decorative way to spruce up ordinary homemade foot scrub?

I have put it in jars and used twine, with tags… fabric cut with pinking shears, etc.. But I want do something NEW and EXCITING.

Glue fake mistle toe and other natural looking objects (fake flowers, paper butterflies, stuff you can find at Hobby Lobby) to the cars.

Maybe glue glitter to the outside of the jars? or put a few beads on there? I put some beads on a costume with a hot glue gun and it was good.

What conditioner should I use for a homemade hot oil treatment?

posted on in homemade conditioner

I’m trying to make a homemade hot oil treatment and I don’t know what brand I should use, much less what kind of conditioner.

Hot Oil Treament:
-Oil (Canola+Olive)
-Conditioner (I don’t what to use for this)

I’m supposed to mix these together and then heat it up. Then apply.
(From others’ guidelines.)
I just want to know a name of a good conditioner to mix in with it.

ANY conditioner you want to use. This would be a good way to use up any conditioner you didn’t really like. But of course the better the conditioner the better the results.
.
Best conditioner I’ve ever used is So Sexy by Victoria’s Secret but Sunsilk is suppose to be good too.

Discovered how to make shampoo, hand soap last longer. Any money saving tips to share?

Was low on my conditioner, so I added some water and shook it in conditioner bottle. The consistency was still great and got more out of conditioner.

Gave me the idea to from now on when buying new container of shampoo, conditioner, liquid hand soap to buy new, product empty contents in cup, add bit of water, mix well then return it to container / dispenser. Get much more product and still does great when using to condition or wash hair and hands.

Don’t know why I didn’t think of it before.

Any tips on how to make amount go further on some products while still getting quality results?
.

For foaming hand soap, instead of getting the actual refill type, we just got a value size generic liquid hand soap and add 1/4 to the foaming hand soap bottle and then fill the rest of the dispenser with water and shook it up.

:/ All I got.

About as pure a shampoo as you can get, this recipe is detergent-free; in addition, the healing properties of aloe vera gel helps to sooth skin irritations.
SIMPLE SOLUTION:

* 2 cups water
* 2 teaspoons liquid castile soap
* 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
* Up to 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin or vegetable oil

Combine all ingredients in a jar. Shake to blend. Get the pet’s coat wet, pour on the shampoo a few tablespoons at a time, lathering as you go. Work the shampoo in with your hands. Rinse thoroughly. Unless you want the pet to shake themselves dry (and get everything in the vicinity wet at the same time!), towel them dry.
HELPFUL HINTS:

* Some pet experts recommend rubbing petroleum jelly around the eyes to keep the soap out. Try a petroleum-free equivalent.
* A final vinegar rinse can help the coat shine, and return the acid mantle to the skin. Combine 1/4 cup of organic apple cider vinegar with 3 cups of warm water, and rinse over the pet’s coat; be sure to avoid the eyes.

What should I price my homemade sugar scrub?

posted on in homemade scrub

I use all natural, organic ingredients. I use olive oil, sugar, Vitamin E, and rosemary (but the rosemary is from my garden, so it doesn’t cost anything.) I use recycled jars to package it, and I put a small tag around the top, with ingredients and directions. Any thoughts on how much I should charge? I use small jars (think baby food), medium jars (think salsa), and larger jars (think spaghetti sauce). Thanks for all of your help!

It depends what the product looks like. The fancier the packaging the more women will be willing to spend on it. If it looks homemade, just charge $5-$8.

Will this homemade air conditioner plan work?

posted on in homemade conditioner

I have this fan, so I plan on geting a large sponge, wet it, and cut out a hole for the cetral back motor thing, and place it in the back of the fan. Will this work? The principals based on the evaporative colling effect. i honestly think it will give off heat more than it gives off coldness, but i could be wrong.

yes it will, but not efficiently enough to be worth persuing. Most evaporative coolers i’ve seen are either like a whole house humidifier, that has a spongy belt that is motorized to rotate it through an automatically refilled water resevoir, or has discs on either side of a squirrel cage blower, the discs made of something that reminds me of a stripper pad for a floor buffer. the discs rotate thru a water trough to keep ‘em wet, and use a speed reducing gearbox powered by the blower motor. The latter is super common in the desert southwest, as the low humidity speeds evaporation and cooling, and are relatively cheap thru WW Grainger. At amusement parks, I’m seeing a lot more high volume fans with a mist attachment that are growing in availability. I saw a mist kit for $12 at Harbor freight tools lately, and the one I stood in front of at cedar point amusement park worked great!

Is it possible to make homemade shampoo?

posted on in how to make shampoo

For the past year all of the store bought shampoo’s have made my scalp bleed and causes painful sores.
I bought new shampoo at Trader Joe’s and it actually healed my scalp but I don’t live close enough to Trader Joe’s to go there every time I need shampoo.
So I was thinking that maybe I could make my own shampoo and that would work too but I need to know how to make it first.
Does anyone have any links describing how to make shampoo’s?
I will so appreciate any help in this area as I am at my wits end buying shampoo’s that has the same effect on my scalp as battery acid and I really would like to wash my hair and have it be clean again.

It’s probably the sodium laureth sulfate in the shampoo that’s irritating you. It’s a very good surfactant for most hair because it lathers well and emulsifies oil out of our hair, but it’s not as gentle as those that lather less (and are more expensive) like cocamidopropyl bentaine (which comes from coconut oil.)

To make your own: http://www.happynews.com/living/haircare/make-shampoo.htm

but you can also just look on the back of commercial shampoos to look for more coca bentaine, or try baby shampoos.
